FIRST NATIONS - PUBLIC FIGURE - BALLET DANCER - MODEL - ACTOR - PUBLIC SPEAKER A proud descendant of the Wiradjuri people, Ella Havelka is most known for being the First Aboriginal dancer to join The Australian Ballet. Born and raised in regional NSW, she graduated from The Australian Ballet School in 2007 with an Advanced Diploma in Dance. Ella made her first appearance with Bangarra Dance Theatre in Fire - A Retrospective in 2009 and danced with the company until 2012. After featuring in Warumuk - in the dark night, a collaborative work created by Stephen Page for The Australian Ballet’s 50th anniversary celebrations, Ella was invited to join The Australian Ballet in 2012. Ella was the subject of an eponymously titled documentary ‘ELLA’ which centred on her dance journey and was released at the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2016. Ella was awarded the 2013 Deadly award for her contribution to dance and a Woman of Style award in 2017. Havelka was featured in Dermalogica Australia’s 2021 Hold The Pose Campaign which was a model dancing video shot over two days on Wiradjuri Country. Ella currently lives in Sydney working as a freelance creative, performer and public speaker.
