Joshua Sim

Joshua Sim is an emerging photographic artist and a Philosophy and Anthropology student based in Melbourne, Australia. His critical yet creative way of seeing the world is grounded in his experiences of growing up in Australia, his love for his Chinese Peranakan - Indian heritage, as well as a unique mix of interests that compel him to explore the complexities of the human condition. Joshua has held a number of exhibitions and galleries across Melbourne, as well as features in publications such as Vogue Australia, and hopes to continue creating a dialogue about shared experiences such as belonging, loneliness, disconnection, mental health and other modern-day problems through art and public speaking. He intends to use his lens as a means to express and combine philosophical concepts to a wider audience – expressing philosophically complex ideas and concepts into a visual medium. Through his work, he specifically aims to capture the human element – studying and deconstructing concepts and themes such as freedom, decolonisation, identity, suffering, and life itself. He offers to his audience not only the beauty and potential of photographic art, but also his own unique life stories and experiences as well.
