- What inspired you to become a (talent) and how did you get started in the industry?
My sister inspired me to send in an email for a modelling gig with a New Zealand business called Flo & Frankie. Although friends and family had always encouraged me to try modelling, I was a shy kid who would run away whenever a camera was pointed in my direction. Surprisingly, I landed the job and met one of my best friends, a photographer, through the experience. From that moment on, I discovered a real passion for being both in front of and behind the camera, embracing the creative side of every different campaign.
- Can you walk us through a typical day in your life as a (talent) from start to finish?
I start my day with a coffee and getting ready for the day ahead. My days are never the same, which is something I’ve always loved. I have clients I can work on at my own pace, which gives me flexibility. If I have a shoot, I always make sure to clear my head first, usually with some yoga or meditation. When creating content, I like to have a rough idea of what I want to achieve but let the creativity flow naturally. On busy days, I make sure to wind down with a wholesome meal and get an early night.
- Are you a (talent) full-time/part-time, or casually? And how do you manage your finances and what strategies have you found most effective?
I’m a part-time freelancer, mainly focusing on content creation and marketing for companies. I also take on modelling gigs here and there. My ongoing clients provide a stable income, which allows me to pick up other fun opportunities as they come. Honestly, word of mouth has been key—talking to people, offering help, and letting them know I’m available and ready.
- What types of brand partnerships have you worked on in the past, and how do you decide which collaborations to take on as a (talent)?
Recently, I’ve worked with brands like Dan Murphy's, Bonds, and a holistic company called Noas. I think as long as a partnership aligns with your values, why not give it a try? For example, I once turned down a campaign for KFC because it involved eating chicken, and I’m a vegetarian. It’s important to stay true to who you are. You really just need to gauge who you are and how you want people to see you.
- Can you share any tips for negotiating rates with brands, and how do you determine your own value as a (talent)?
I’ve always found it challenging to set a price for my work, but the best advice I’ve received is to value yourself highly. The worst that can happen is someone says no to the price, and then you either negotiate or realise your worth. Your time is valuable, and it’s important to recognise that.
- How do you stay updated with industry trends and best practices as a (talent), and what resources do you rely on for education and inspiration?
People are my main source of inspiration. Talking to others and collaborating with creatives is incredibly energising. You can really feel the positive energy, and that’s inspiring. I also find Pinterest and Instagram to be great for a little inspiration.
- Have you faced any challenges or setbacks in your career as a (talent), and how did you overcome them?
Definitely. I used to struggle with confidence in front of the camera, to the point where my upper lip would shake from nerves. Breathing techniques have helped a lot, as has learning to be kind to myself. It’s important to accept that you won’t always feel like you’ve done your best, and that’s okay.
- How do you achieve work-life balance as a (talent), even when life throws unexpected challenges your way?
I make sure to carve out at least 10 minutes a day to regroup, even on the busiest days. Whether it’s a quick meditation or just some deep breathing, it makes a big difference. I’m also a huge fan of using a calendar on my laptop to plan my days. It helps me see if taking on extra jobs will cause stress. It’s tough sometimes, but it’s important to remember that you can’t do it all—and that’s okay.
- How do you see the (talent)industry evolving in the next 5-10 years, and what changes do you anticipate?
The talent industry is evolving rapidly, especially with technology like AI advancing so quickly. It’s changing in ways that are hard to predict, but one thing’s for sure—competition is only getting stronger. Staying adaptable and finding new ways to stand out will be more important than ever as the industry continues to shift.
- Can you share any upcoming projects or partnerships that you're excited about, and how do you plan to continue growing your brand as a (talent)?
Yes,I’m currently working on some exciting rebranding projects for companies in Melbourne, with a focus on sustainability!. In the future, I hope to continue growing by collaborating with brands that are committed to making a positive impact on the planet.
- What advice would you give to aspiring (talent) who are starting out and looking to build a successful career in the industry?
You are your best worst enemy. Give it a go, if you don’t like it you can always stop. But don’t regret the chances you didn’t take.
