1. What inspired you to become an Influencer / Model and how did you get started in the industry?
I started creating content as I was going through leaving my job as a teacher. I wanted to speak out and share my experience and share what is going on in the public education system in the United States. I slowly fell in love with the art of content creation, and it has slowly morphed into what it is today
2. Can you walk us through a typical day in your life as an Influencer / Model from start to finish?
I typically go into the week with a loose content plan, reviewing partnership timelines and UGC deadlines. I loosely plan my content the night before. I take the morning to film my content, and I take the afternoon to edit and schedule uploads. Sometimes I am editing the content I filmed that same morning, and other times I am editing things I have previously filmed.
3. Are you an Influencer / Model full-time/part-time, or casually? And how do you manage your finances and what strategies have you found most effective?
I am beginning to transition from a part-time creator to a full-time creator.
4. What types of brand partnerships have you worked on in the past, and how do you decide which collaborations to take on as an Influencer / Model?
I am mostly in the fashion and beauty space as an influencer. I have many inbound collaboration requests, but I have begun only accepting those that completely align with my interests and niche. I found that not only is it more interesting and fun for me that way, but it goes over with my audience a lot better too.
5. Can you share any tips for negotiating rates with brands, and how do you determine your own value as an Influencer / Model?
I think this is something creators are always evolving and learning about especially when they don’t have management to guide them. Don’t sell yourself short, and remember you are a business as well, so don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself when communicating with brands. I am always willing to be flexible with my rates if it’s a brand or partnership that fits my niche or I went after. I am not as flexible with my rates when I am considering a partnership outside of my niche or with a product I wouldn’t typically use or am trying for the first time.
6. How do you stay updated with industry trends and best practices as an Influencer / Model, and what resources do you rely on for education and inspiration?
There are a few creators I follow who create their content revolving around the industry, trends, best practices, etc. Julia Broome being my favorite. They not only inspire me with their tips, but I feel comfort in having their knowledge since this space can be confusing and isolating at times.
7. Have you faced any challenges or setbacks in your career as an Influencer / Model, and how did you overcome them?
Not necessarily, but I have been learning more and more that everything in this industry is very ebb and flow.
8. How do you achieve work-life balance as an Influencer / Model, even when life throws unexpected challenges your way?
I always try to have a few prerecorded pieces of content on hand for times like this, so I can stay consistent even when things out of the ordinary arise.
9. How do you see the Influencer / Model Industry evolving in the next 5-10 years, and what changes do you anticipate?
I would love to see the industry evolve into more of a casual space again. Recently everyone is wrapped up into creating aesthetic, salesy content. While there’s a time and place for that, I think we all crave a change from the consumer standpoint of more down to earth content that we can mindlessly enjoy.
10. Can you share any upcoming projects or partnerships that you're excited about, and how do you plan to continue growing your brand as an Influencer / Model?
My most exciting (and recent) partnership is an ongoing partnership with Essence Cosmetics. I have always authentically used their products, so this partnership feels so natural and I have so much fun creating the content. I am excited to try creating longer form content and beginning a Youtube channel.
11. What advice would you give to aspiring Influencer / Model who are starting out and looking to build a successful career in the industry?
I would say find what you love, and share about it while staying true to yourself. It is so easy to get wrapped up in others' successes and wanting to mimic their content or their style when you see it doing well. That not only will kill your creative drive, but it will also feel so inauthentic to you, and it’s not something you’ll be able to maintain for long. Do what you love, be patient, and success will follow.
